“Growing up as the only child of two parents with disabilities exposed me early on to the challenges of limited income, ongoing illness, and persistent pain. Now my parents, are beautiful people, but were handed a very poor stick at life. Unfortunately, this led to growing up in an environment that was not always, let’s call it ‘pretty’ or ‘easy’. Resultantly, in order to cope with these circumstances my brain did what many brains do, and decided to concentrate on what it could control, food & my body. This led me down a personal journey with the eating disorder Bulimia Nervosa, my very first fight for my life.
Unable to secure the necessary financial support for proper healthcare due to my BMI not meeting the required threshold, I was lucky that my brain did what it does now, it decided to figure out the problem, and teach myself how to resolve that problem. I had no choice but to fight for myself, which led me down a path of putting myself through eating disorder recovery. Once I reached young adulthood and could work to afford to appropriate treatment, similar to the treatment this platform now provides, I did.

When I recovered from my eating disorder, I made a vow to myself to prevent those situations I have experienced from happening ever again to anyone I could
Or, at least, if I could hold them through there struggles and ensure they know they are not alone, I would. Nourished Not Deprived emerged from what some may call ‘humble’ beginnings in my parents’ garage. Fuelled by a laptop, a very poor attempt at a Squarespace website and a burning fire in my belly, it was born from a promise I made to ‘little Bronte’, to give to others what she and her family did not get.
I know you will find the support and community in NND that you deserve, and we all arguably need. That I can promise you.
Be kind to yourself and others always,
Now not so little Bronte.”
