Baked Apple Crumble Slices

Baked Apple Crumble Slices

Ingredients

INGREDIENTS FOR CRUST BASE:

  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1½ cups plain flour
  • ¼ cup apple sauce
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence

INGREDIENTS FOR FILLING:

  • ½ tbsp Butter (or Proactiv/Nuttelex)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 TBSPs maple syrup or honey (I used honey because I didn’t have maple)
  • 3 large apples peeled and chopped finely
  • 2 tsps cornflour (or regular flour will do the trick)
  • 1 tsp vanilla essence
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees Celsius (fan forced).
  2. Line the baking tin of choice with parchment paper and set aside.
  3. Combine all dry ingredients from the crust ingredients (oats, flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, nutmeg, cinnamon) then add wet (applesauce + vanilla) and stir until a semi wet dough is formed.
  4. Place 7/8ths of the mixture in the prepared tin and squish down with your fingers to form the base. (Mixture should combine and bind when pressed together). Place the rest in the fridge.
  5. Now for the filling, place butter/margarine in a heated pan (medium heat) and cook chopped apples (thinly sliced) with the cinnamon, nutmeg and sweetener until beginning to soften.
  6. Once softened add corn flour and vanilla (the sauce should thicken add a result and the apples should combine slightly).
  7. Pour apple filling onto base and top with the base set aside previously (sprinkle over).
  8. Place in oven and cook for approximately 35 minutes (or until crumble is golden brown on top).
