At Nourished Not Deprived (NND), we believe support work is about far more than just “showing up”.
It’s about trust, safety, compassion, and genuine human connection.
That’s why we take a very deliberate, values-driven approach to how we recruit, screen, and onboard our support workers – because the right support worker can make all the difference.

To ensure every participant and worker feels safe, respected, and genuinely supported.

Our support workers are carefully selected for their:
Kindness and empathy
Emotional intelligence
Compassion and patience
Strong communication skills
Openness to learning and feedback
Professionalism and reliability
We prioritise individuals who either:
Have lived experience with disability, mental health, chronic illness, or caring roles, or
Demonstrate a genuine passion for the disability and support sector
We don’t believe support work is “just a job” – and we only bring people on board who feel the same.
Safety is non-negotiable.
Every NND support worker undergoes comprehensive screening, including:
Professional reference checks
NDIS Worker Screening Check
Working With Children Check (where applicable)
Police Check
Verification of qualifications, training, and prior experience
We don’t rush this process – because trust is earned, not assumed.
Once selected, our support workers complete a detailed onboarding process designed to set them — and our participants — up for success.
This includes education and training in:
Trauma-informed care
Diabetes awareness and safe support
Professional boundaries and ethical practice
Respectful communication
Understanding participant dignity, choice, and control
Expectations around professionalism, reliability, and documentation
We place strong emphasis on boundaries, because safe, effective support requires clarity, consistency, and respect on both sides.
Support workers are only matched with participants they feel confident and comfortable supporting -and just as importantly, participants are matched with workers they feel safe and at ease with.
This matching process considers:
Personality and communication style
Interests and values
Support needs and complexity
Cultural considerations
Gender preferences (where requested)
Capacity, confidence, and experience level
If the fit isn’t right, we reassess – because the right match matters.
Our commitment doesn’t stop once a support worker starts.
NND maintains ongoing oversight to ensure:
High standards of care are upheld
Support workers feel supported and guided
Participants receive consistent, respectful, and safe support
We believe quality support work happens when support workers feel valued, prepared, and backed – not left to figure things out alone.
Our Support Workers help participants live more independently, confidently, and meaningfully. This can include daily living tasks, community access, social participation, emotional regulation, and skill development – all guided by an Occupational Therapist to ensure safe, clinically informed care.
We support self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants across Australia. Whether you’re a child, teen, or adult, our Support Workers are matched to your individual needs, goals, and preferences.
Yes. Every Support Worker at Nourished Not Deprived completes thorough background checks (WWCC, Police Check, NDIS Worker Screening) and receives ongoing training. Our Support Workers can assist with:
Personal care (showering, dressing, hygiene)
Household tasks (cleaning, laundry, meal prep)
Community access and social outings
